Grand Rapids Symphony - Romance and Rachmaninoff

Unforgettable classical works
Why see Grand Rapids Symphony - Romance and Rachmaninoff?
Featuring Garrick Ohlsson
Don't miss a rousing, romantic program of Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich, helmed by conductor Marcelo Lehninger. The ensemble will be joined by the renowned pianist Garrick Ohlsson, a musician of formidable talent who has been one of the world's leading performers since shooting to acclaim in 1970, when he won gold medal at the International Chopin Piano Competition.
The evening begins with Shostakovich's triumphant Festive Overture, composed for the anniversary of the October Revolution. This is followed by Rachmaninoff's energetic Piano Concerto No. 2, in which Mr. Ohlsson will reach the demanding heights of the bold, brash and brilliant piece. The concert ends with the Rachmaninoff's majestic but often under-appreciated Third Symphony, a piece seen by the composer himself as one of his greatest achievements.
